Project Overview

The Buick GNX HMI is a concept project focused on designing a high-visual-style, future-forward in-vehicle user interface that still prioritizes ease of use and function. The system was designed around core driving information (ex, speed, range) and key control surfaces (ex, climate, audio).

The Challenge

Create an automotive HMI concept that balances:
• Bold Visual Craft & Concepted/Adapted Branding.
• Usability and functional clarity for real driving tasks.

Vehicle / Design Context:
The concept is framed around the 1986 Buick Grand National GNX, used as the “vehicle identity” to shape tone, styling, and UI personality.

My Role

End-to-end UX/UI Designer for the concept—responsible for:
• Research + Methodology Artifacts
• Interaction Modeling (flows)
• Wireframes → Interface Design → Final Mockups

Process & Approach

Design Methodology + User Understanding:
Defined a design methodology, created a user persona, and mapped a user journey to ground decisions in real intent.

Visual + Interaction Direction:
Developed UI inspiration references to set a cohesive, high-style design language before building screens.
